Antares centre is open to self-catering groups throughout the year. We have 4 bedrooms available with a variety of combinations; 2 rooms can take 4 people, there is also 1 double room and 1 twin room. Please make sure that you fill out the booking form correctly with the accommodation type you require. If you are a family with 2 young children it would be advisable to request one of the family rooms (4 singles), thereby ensuring that you stay together. There are 3 ablution facilities which are shared between all the guests. There is a TV lounge and open plan kitchen/dining area. Hot summer days can be spent relaxing in the small plunge pool. The kitchen is fully stocked with all your home comforts so all you need to do is brings yourselves, your food and drink and settle in for a perfect weekend away. Enjoy a perfect sundowner sitting on the steps to the lodge looking over the waterhole and watching the birds and animals come down for their evening drink. Alternatively you may want to request one of the activities listed below. Morning or afternoon game drives. Experience the bush from the back of an open land rover. There are opportunities to come close to some of the larger animal species found on the reserve. Elephant are encountered on a regular basis as to are other animals such as wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and kudu. Enjoy a sundowner on the banks of the Olifants River during the afternoon game drive and have the chance to drive home again in the dark looking for the rare nocturnal game with a spotlight. Morning game walk Get rid of those comfort zones and put yourself on a par with the animals around you. Learn about the dung beetles and other insects, the trees and how traditional uses can benefit us, track down an elephant or simply enjoy a morning stroll listening to the birds waking up. Pel's Fishing Owl walk This activity is limited to 6 people plus the guide and is best done early in the morning. Spend a couple of hours on the banks of the Olifants River looking for this rare and elusive bird species. Balule has at least 18 birds recorded along a 40km stretch of the Olifants River. Taita falcon tour This tour can be done by yourself but if you would like to be accompanied by a guide it can be arranged. The Taita falcons, probably South Africa's rarest bird, can be found nesting at the Strydom Tunnel about an hour's drive from the centre. These small birds are not always visible and the best time to look for them is early in the morning before they leave the roost area on the cliffs above you. If you have a scope it is best to take it with you although Michael, the resident guide, does have one you can make use of. Guided tour into Kruger Park This tour can be conducted in your own vehicle with a guide to accompany you or in one of our vehicles. A minimum of 4 people is required for this trip. Sleep out under the stars. This is an unforgettable experience. Sleep out under the stars (no tents) in the sole comfort of your sleeping bag and a fire to keep watch by. An armed guide will accompany you on this excursion. You will need to bring your own sleeping bags and roll mats for this one. A minimum of 4 people are required as you will need to take turns to keep watch while the others sleep (if they can!). Lions and hyenas often roam the reserve which keeps this an exciting adventure. There are a number of other tours that can be booked through other operators and details will be available at the centre. |
